This Privacy Policy explains how AI Copilot ("we", "our", or "the extension") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Chrome extension.

1. Information We Collect

Automatically Collected Information:

• Anonymous User ID: A randomly generated identifier stored locally on your device to track your credit usage. This ID cannot be linked to your personal identity.
• Usage Data: Token consumption, number of API requests, and credit balance - stored on our servers linked only to your anonymous ID.

User-Provided Information:

• OpenAI API Key (Optional): If you choose to use your own OpenAI API key, it is stored locally in your browser and never transmitted to our servers.
• Conversation History: Stored temporarily in your browser's local storage and cleared when you close the chat or navigate to a different website.
• Payment Information: When purchasing credits, payment processing is handled by Razorpay. We do not store credit card information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

• Provide AI-powered responses to your questions about webpage content
• Track your credit usage and balance
• Process payments for credit purchases
• Improve our service and user experience
• Send AI requests to OpenAI's API on your behalf

3. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We share data with the following third parties:

• OpenAI: Your questions and webpage context are sent to OpenAI's API to generate responses. OpenAI's privacy policy applies to this data.
• Razorpay: Payment information is processed by Razorpay for credit purchases. Razorpay's privacy policy applies to payment data.

We do NOT:

• Sell your personal information to third parties
• Share your browsing history or webpage content with advertisers
• Store your conversations on our servers
• Track your identity across different websites

4. Data Storage and Security

• Local Storage: Your API key, conversation history, and preferences are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
• Server Storage: Only your anonymous user ID and credit usage data are stored on our servers.
• Security: We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission. Your API keys are encrypted in local storage.

5. Webpage Content Access

The extension requests the activeTab permission to read webpage content when you ask questions. This content is:

• Only accessed when you actively use the extension
• Sent to OpenAI's API to provide context for your questions
• Not stored permanently on our servers
• Limited to visible text content (no passwords or sensitive form data)

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Delete Your Data: Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. Contact us to delete server-side data.
• Use Your Own API Key: Bypass our servers entirely by using your own OpenAI API key.
• Opt-Out: Simply don't use the extension if you disagree with this policy.

7. Children's Privacy

Our extension is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Data Retention

• Conversation History: Automatically cleared per website session
• Credit Usage: Retained indefinitely for billing purposes
• Payment Records: Retained as required by law

10. International Users

Our servers are hosted on Render.com. By using this extension, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
